1 James Pryor and wife Nancy
Not much is know of James Pryor. Is he the same James Pryor who was a head of household on the 1830 Census in Overton Co., TN? There is no James on the 1840 Census, but Nancy is a head of household. It is speculated by researchers that James was married to the Nancy Pryor who appears the 1850 Census in Overton Co., Dist. 6 (House 668 Nancy PRYOR 40 TN, Juda 24, John 18, William Pryor 15, Logan 13, Ellinder 10, James 8, Pleasant 5, Melvina Wilson 27, Martha 1). The James on the 1830 Census was born between 1790-1800, too old to be a son of William and Spicy Pryor. It should be noted that James, Mary, and Overton Pryor named children Juda or Judy, and that there was a Juda Pryor Hummel also living in Overton Co., TN (1850 Census Dist 10 House 274 Judy Hummel 52 VA, John 18, William 15, David 12, Anna PRYOR 74 VA). James Pryor died in early 1844 per the Overton Co. Court Minutes. It has been speculated that James is a son of Jesse Pryor and Anna Pryor of VA (a female about Anna's age was living in Juda Hummel's household in 1840).
