The Reed Collection

A collection of family photos of Pryors and aligned families from Sumner County, TN. In February 2007 this collection of family photos was loaned to the Tennessee Pryor website.

Among the photos are several tin-type photos from the 1860's and 1870's and photos from the 1880's and 1890's of the children and grandchildren of Allen L. Pryor of Sumner County. In the late 1890's Lycurgus Pryor, his sisters Ann Eliza Pryor Simmons and Alice Pryor Belt with their respecitve families left Gallatin for Farmersville in Collin County, TX. Many of the photos are from these lines who migrated to Texas.

IDENTIFIED!... man and woman, on back "Aunt Vickie and Uncle Apell". Aunt Vickie may be Victoria Wright from Sumner County, TN. Photo taken by Alex de Anquinos, Nashville, Tenn....Aunt Vickie is Susan V. Simmons born 1858 in TN, sister of Joshua Simmons who married Allen L. Pryor's daughter Ann Eliza. Uncle Appell is Theron B. Appell born Dec. 1837; he was from New Haven, CT.

Clara Simmons (daughter of Joshua Simmons and Ann Eliza Pryor). Possibly with first husband Robert Faullin. Photo by Rising sun Picture Gallery, J. P. Jennings, Proprietor & Operator. Clara and her husband left TN for TX in about 1897. Identity is in doubt because Clara Simmons' grand-daughter identified photo 14 as Clara Simmons... these are deffinitely two different people!

The woman the back row of this photo is possibly "Gertie" as she resembles the childhood photo of Gertie... photo 4. The young woman in the front row is possibly the same girl who appears in photo 13 and 14. Possibly family photo of Ann Eliza Pryor and husband Joshua Simmons.

IDENTIFIED!... Walter A. Pryor born Jan. 1875, son of Thomas Jefferson Pryor and Permelia Ann Talley of Sumner Co., TN. Walter was a grandson of William Pryor and Margaret Curry, and the great-grandson of John Pryor and Massy Taylor. Identified from another existing photo that had his name written on the back.

NEW...Allen L. Pryor. Tin-type. A. L. Pryor was born in 1816, it's estimated that this photo was taken in about 1870-1875. The cardboard boarder is similar to photo 42, it's assumed that they were taken by the same studio.

NEW...John Edward Pryor, son of Allen L. Pryor, born 1851. Tin-type. Photograph is in a paper frame that names studio: Ground Floor Photography Gallery, G. C. Rhine, Photographer, Gallatin, Tenn. G. C. Rhine was on the 1870 Census in Sumner County and listed his occupation as photographyer. He was still in Gallatin on the 1880 Census.

NEW...Ann Eliza Pryor Simmons, daughter of Allen L. Pryor, born 1846. Tin-type. Ann Eliza married Joshua Simmons in 1874, so photo may have been taken shortly before that time.

NEW...Lucy Pryor, a daughter of Allen L. Pryor, born 1864. Tin-type. Wife of James Golden "Burt" Belt. Photograph was taken around 1874 or 1875.

New... Allen L. Pryor born 1816 with second wife Margaret McWhirter, daughter Betty Pryor born 1861 and husband Thomas Washington Gregory. Children left to right Elizabeth Gregory b. 1893, Allen Foster Gregory b. 1887, and Vernon Head Gregory b. 1890.

NEW... Lucy Pryor, the same girl as photo 44. This photo was taken at about the same time as the photos of her sisters. It is a very darkened tin-type, but you can make out that she is wearing the large beaded necklace that her sisters were wearing in their photos.
